If you are concerned that yourself, or a family member/friend may have Dementia your first point of contact is always your GP.

The GP in turn, may refer you to a Consultant Psychiatrist, and/or a Community Mental Health Team which consists of Community Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Support Workers.

If you are requiring assistance such as practical assistance (personal care, meals), or social (groups/daycare), or financial advice then you can contact Derbyshire County Council on 08456 058 058.  There are local teams made up of Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Community Care Workers who will be able to assist and advise you.

Alzheimer’s Society – the leading charity in Dementia Care in the U.K.  They provide a vast amount of information as well as local groups to attend.

There are also Dementia Action Alliances being formed throughout the country, these are organisations who are coming together to form groups who assist with practical matters. Members include charities, colleges, pharmaceutical companies, local authorities, acute trusts and local businesses such as solicitors/financial advisors etc.
